Trident
Blair's legacy to Scotland is to keep Trident for the next 50 years. Christian Peoples Alliance (Scotland) abhors the continued determination of the Westminster Labour Government and the Labour Lib/Dem Coalition in the Scottish Parliament to keep Trident and foist a new generation of nuclear weapons on to Scotland at Faslane.
Christian Peoples Alliance seeks a future free from weapons of mass destruction. The cost of Tony Blair's legacy to Scotland will be to dump nuclear weapons at Faslane for the next half century at the staggering cost of ?50 - ?100 billion.
Why are Blair and the Scottish Executive doing this? The Government in Westminster and Holyrood admit that Britain faces no significant military threat now or in the foreseeable future. Trident did not deter the attacks of 7/7 in London and will not stop further terrorist attacks. All the Churches in Scotland and the great majority of Scots oppose the replacement of Trident.
Christian Peoples Alliance says we want Scotland to be a force for peace and justice in Europe and will continue to oppose vociferously the making, renewal and the implicit threat to use these weapons of mass destruction.
